In parallel with industrialization and technological developments in the world and in our country, a number of problems have emerged, especially regarding the health and safety of working people, who are productive factors in workplaces. These problems, which were not taken into consideration at first, gained importance as they endangered work efficiency and the business, and the need to think about them arose. Within the scope of EU harmonization laws, Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, prepared in accordance with EU and ILO (International Labor Organization) norms, was published in the Official Gazette on 30.06.2012. The purpose of this law is OHS in workplaces; To regulate the duties, powers, responsibilities, rights and obligations of employers and employees in order to ensure Occupational Health and Safety and to improve existing health and safety conditions. This law applies to all jobs and workplaces in the public and private sectors, employers of these workplaces, employer representatives, and all employees, including apprentices and interns, regardless of their fields of activity, with certain exceptions.

It is aimed to disseminate information and training activities in the field of occupational health and safety, and it is planned to teach OHS courses as a compulsory or elective course in universities in order to realize policies for this purpose. In line with this policy, Article 11 of the Law on Amendments to the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6645 and Certain Laws and Decree Laws (2015), which was adopted on 04.04.2015 and published in the Official Gazette No. 29335 dated 23.04.2015, and Article 5 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547. An amendment has been made to the article. With this change, Occupational Health and Safety course was added to the compulsory courses taught in higher education institutions. Like Ataturk’s Principles and History of Revolution, Turkish Language and Foreign Language courses, Occupational Health and Safety course has become a compulsory course in faculties that train graduates who can become occupational safety experts.
