Department of Common Courses

The regulation regarding the teaching of Turkish Language, Atatürk’s Principles and History of Revolution and Foreign Language (English) courses is stated in subparagraph (ı) of Article 5 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547, stating that “In higher education institutions, Atatürk’s Principles and History of Revolution, Turkish language, foreign language” According to the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 dated 20/6/2012, occupational health and safety is one of the compulsory courses in faculties that train graduates who can become occupational safety experts. In addition, one of the courses in physical education or fine arts is taught, although it is not compulsory. “All these courses are programmed and implemented for at least two semesters.” It is expressed as .

In this context, it is mandatory to teach “Ataturk’s Principles and History of Revolution”, “Turkish Language”, “Foreign Language” and “Occupational Health and Safety” courses in the education programs of all universities within the borders of the Republic of Turkey.

In universities across Türkiye, these courses are called Compulsory Common Courses (5i).

The Department of Common Courses was established to ensure the execution and coordination of relevant courses. The coordination and execution of the “Foreign Language” courses, which are among these courses, are provided by Samsun University Rectorate Foreign Languages Department. Compulsory Common Courses are given to first year students of universities (2nd year in some faculties) within the scope of compulsory courses in the Fall and Spring semesters. At our university, Turkish Language, Ataturk’s Principles and History of Revolution are taught through Distance Education.

There is no attendance requirement for courses taken via distance education. Students can attend these lessons from home, work, school, etc., at the time the lesson is given. You can participate live via computer from anywhere; They can interact with the lecturer teaching the course or watch the videos of these courses recorded in the Samsun University UZEM system later. In addition to the compulsory 5/E courses, the Department of Common Courses provides the execution and coordination of elective general culture courses that all university students can take during the periods specified in the program.
